What is a Church of the Week?

Church of the Week (COTW) is one congregation for one week partnering with Love INC to meet the needs received by the Love INC Clearinghouse Phone Center. Needs vary from delivering groceries, clothes and furniture to providing rides to medical appointments or making a home visit. Typically clearinghouse volunteers spend several days, sometimes weeks, searching for a congregation that is available to help someone in need. Our unique COTW approach decreases this gap in response time by having a source of volunteers already mobilized to demonstrate the love of Christ to our city.  As the vision grows every week (e.g. 52 congregations) a congregation will have the opportunity to participate.

What Will We Be Doing?

We will be working in teams to accomplish a variety of tasks.

• Some will answer phones and take requests for help.
• Some will prepare and/or deliver assistance packages.
• Some will pick up and/or deliver furniture.
• Some will be making home visits to determine the legitimacy of needs that have been phoned in.

Participants will be given the opportunity to join a team according to what they are able to do and feel comfortable with. Our top priority is to reflect the love of Christ no matter what task we are involved in.

• Please take the time to listen to the recipients, and to encourage them as you are able.
• Offer to pray with them, and do not be shy about asking questions about their spiritual condition.
• Inquire if they have a home church. If not, encourage them to find one. Share why your’s is important to you.

Participants can sign up for whatever time commitment fits their schedule. It can be one morning or one afternoon or one evening or one full day or every other day or even the whole week.
